Perhaps the most exciting development for the Fall season of 2014 is the announcement of Friends of the Haven Education Endowment.
John and Mary Nice, along with many others, have seen the power of the Haven programs and how the Haven changes lives. John and Mary have been huge supporters to the Friends of the Haven mission to help women achieve self-sufficiency in their recovery.
A huge trigger to relapse is worries about money. Unfortunately, many companies will not grant good paying job opportunities to our clients because their behavior when they were in their addictions. This limits the options for single, recovering mothers to provide a stable, sustainable home. It takes the Haven determination to break down these barriers to success, to change the perception of a recovering addict, and how treatment should be addressed. Haven graduates have shown that they have perseverance and drive to do it!
John and Mary wanted to do something to encourage the Haven women to pursue their dreams, to continue their momentum, to help change the idea of how addictions and mental illness should and can be treated, and continue to help and support others in recovery. So they, along with Bill and Kathryn Winn, put their resources together to start the endowment.
Community First Foundation got on board, too, with a matching grant of $10,000. We want to grow the endowment to $60,000 by then end of 2014. This will allow us to grant one scholarship for the 2015 school year.
If you would like to contribute to the endowment- which is an everlasting contribution to a Haven graduate’s education- please contact Bill Winn or Crissey McNally or simply click the Donate button and indicate that this where you would like to direct your donation.
