Collectively these Rising Star Award Recipients have come from the darkness of addiction, the depths of despair, from hopelessness, abuse, trauma, shame, guilt and prison to overcome unimaginable obstacles and challenges to become leading members of our community that we are all proud to call friends. They are a strong and proud group and a wonderful testament to the ability of the human spirit to survive and overcome.
2010: Patricia graduated in 2001, 13 years ago and her baby Bobbi Lynn was born February 2000 while Patricia was in treatment. Bobbi Lynn was selected this year for choice enrollment at Ralston Valley high school in Arvada. She is a straight A student and captain of the volley ball team. Patricia owns her own home and has a supervisory position with Jefferson County Government.
2012: Tammie Carroll since graduating in 2004 has earned a BS in Human Services and today is the Executive Director of New Genesis a transitional community for the homeless.
2013: Brandi Jennings, an IV heroin addict graduated in 2010 and today is the owner/manager of her own women owned construction company, B-Fab Construction. In June this year she joined the board of directors of Friends of the Haven.
2014: Stephanie McCoy, an IV Cocaine addict graduated in 2010. She has since earned a BS in Human Services at Metro and will start on her masters in Human Services with an emphasis on addiction next year. She is on the staff at Parker Valley Hope, a residential addictions treatment program.
