For the 5th year in a row, Friends of the Haven was selected as an Amp the Cause (formerly Concerts for Kids) beneficiary site for Community Day. On this day Amp the Cause organizes “nearly 1000 volunteers to help over 50 nonprofits improve their facilities (Amp the Cause, 2015).” Corporate organizations as well as individuals in the Denver community put groups together, register on the Amp the Cause website, and visit with the nonprofit they are paired with to provide the most meaningful help they can accomplish on one day and 6 hours of work. The volunteers provide the manual labor and Amp the Cause provides the supplies and lunch. They are our role models of how to build partnerships, share the visions, and make a collective impact!
Last year, we had a group from Sports Authority come out, this year ESK&H came out with over 40 volunteers (our largest group to date)! They worked on building improves at Synergy. They painted the inside of the Synergy School, painted the porch trim and floor, and landscaped the entire front! They were joyful and hard working through the grim and gunk; through the mud and paint.
Friends is so honored to be a part of Amp the Cause and now honored to have new friends with ESK&H.
Amp the Cause is holding their annual raffle to support nonprofits- again, they are the leaders of orchestrating change for Coloradoans in need (Amp the Cause, 2015) and they are doing it with A Million for What Matters. A Million for What Matters is not like any typical raffle. All of the proceeds from Raffle Ticket sales go right back to the organizations selling the tickets! I don’t know how they do it, but we are glad they do. In partnership with Sill-TerHer Motors, the tickets you purchase put your name into a drawing for a brand new 2015 Ford Focus! The winner will be announced on May 23rd so don’t wait to purchase your tickets.
All the dollars raised by Friends of the Haven will go toward positive pro-social activities for the Haven clients and their children. This fund has enabled clients to attend shows at the Buell theater, skiing, biking, sporting events, and more. These activities are vital to sustainable recovery. They show the clients at The Haven how to have fun in healthy and positive ways.
