For the 3rd year in a row, Friends has been in partnership with Grow Local Colorado, “a group of volunteers dedicated to promoting local food, local community, and local economy”, to cultivate a generous portion of land behind the Haven House. Last year this garden produced over 700 lbs of organic produce which the Haven clients used in their meals, meals for their children, and meals for the rest of “the block”.
This year, the GLC volunteers, headed up by Barbara Masoner, and the Junior League of Denver came out to prepare the earth to receive the seeds and seedlings being planted later this month. Grow Local Colorado also donated 4 little peach trees for the front of the Baby Haven and Haven. We are excited to be able to utilize the amazing talents and garden coaching. This is yet another life skill the clients at the Haven will be grateful to have once they graduate from the program. We are looking forward to GLC to come and can with us in the Fall.
