Baby Haven Volunteer Opportunities

We love our volunteers! We are looking for folks who can share their time and talents as a classroom volunteer at the Baby Haven. The Baby Haven Childcare Center provides care and early education for children from 2 weeks through 5 years of age (infants, toddlers, and preschoolers). Our classrooms consist of Infants (ages 6 weeks – 18 months), Toddlers (ages 12 months – 3 years), and Preschool (2 ½ years – 5 years).

Classroom volunteers offer support and comfort to children. Volunteers assist Teachers in meeting children’s basic needs, providing children with positive and nurturing play experiences, and building trust and rapport with children. Volunteers are not left alone with children and do not provide diapering or toileting.

Volunteers who wish to help in the classrooms should consider the following:

Requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. In general, volunteers should be fully vaccinated including vaccination against the flu and Whooping Cough. Volunteers must provide proof of vaccination.
  3. Must go through the application and interview process.
  4. Must successfully pass four background checks, there is an approximate cost of $85 for the volunteer.
  5. Must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 3 months.
  6. Must be able to volunteer on a weekly or every other week basis in order to provide consistency for our children.
  7. Experience and enthusiasm for working with children.
  8. Patience with and compassion for children.
  9. Strong communication skills.
  10. Computer proficient, must be able to use the internet and email, must be able to complete on-line trainings independently.
  11. Able to lift 20-30 pounds.
  12. Volunteers are not left alone with children.
  13. Volunteers do not assist with diapering or toileting

Current Volunteer Needs at the Baby Haven

Basic Responsibilities:

  1. Play with, care for, and talk to children, offering them safety, comfort, and respect.
  2. Assist Teachers with clean-up and general maintenance of the childcare area.
  3. Maintain the strict confidentiality of the families in the Center.
  4. Present and on time for scheduled volunteer shifts. Volunteers are required to notify the Childcare Director in advance when they will be absent or late for a shift.
  5. Follow required rules and regulations.
  6. Participate in safety drills.
  7. Volunteers greet every child, staff member, and family when entering a classroom.
  8. Have lots of fun and make a difference in your community!

Infant Room Duties Include:

  • Doing and folding laundry.
  • Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and babies includes bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Holding, loving, playing with, singing, and reading to babies.
  • Helping to feed babies.
  • Helping as an extra set of eyes and ears.
  • Gently redirect when necessary.

Toddler Room Duties Include:

  • Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and children includes bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Preparing the environment before, during, and after meals.
  • Helping to encourage naptime.
  • Reading, singing, and participating in arts and crafts activities.
  • Help prepare children for playground time and monitor safety

Preschool Room Duties Include:

  • Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and children includes bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Promote independence through education and calm communication
  • Preparing the environment before, during, and after meals.
  • Help encourage naptime.
  • Reading, singing, and participating in arts and crafts activities.
  • Help prepare children for outside playground time and monitor safety

  2. Email us at ARTS.BabyHaven@ucdenver.edu to let us know you are interested in volunteering and have completed the Baby Haven Volunteer Initial Screening Form. We review and respond to volunteer requests once a month, please be patient as our first priority is caring for children.
