Baby Haven Volunteer Opportunities
To volunteer at the Baby Haven, consistency for the babies and children is an important way for them to feel stable and loved. Volunteers who wish to help in the classrooms should consider the following Baby Haven volunteer aspects:
- Must be 18 or older
- Enthusiasm and some experience working with children
- Patience and compassion for children
- Solid communication skills
- Able to commit to at least one 4 hour shift per week for a minimum of 3 months
- Able to lift up to 30lbs
- Able to pass a background and fingerprint check (cost to be paid by volunteer-approximately $35)
- Complete the Volunteer Packet
For Volunteers who would like to a little more flexibility, we need help with lunch service Monday through Friday from 10:30am to 12n. You can pick the dates that work best with your schedule via Sign Up Genius.
Current Volunteer Needs at the Baby Haven
General Classroom Philosophy
Childcare classroom volunteers offer support and comfort to children. They assist teaching in meeting every child’s basic needs, providing children with positive and nurturing play experiences while building trust and rapport.
Basic Responsibilities
- Play with, care for, and talk to children offering them comfort and respect.
- Assist teachers with clean-up and general maintenance of the childcare area
- Maintain the strict confidentiality of the families at the Baby Haven
- Follow directions according to posted procedures.
- Commit and punctual to volunteer shifts
- Review your schedule with the teachers in your classrooms
- Have fun
Infant Room Duties Include:
- Folding laundry
- Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and babies includes bending, reaching and lifting.
- Holding, loving, playing with, singing and reading to babies
- Help feed babies
- Help with an extra set of eyes
- Gently redirect when necessary
- Participate in fire drills
Toddler Room Duties Include:
- Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and babies includes bending, reaching and lifting.
- Preparing the environment before, during and after meals.
- Helping to encourage naptime.
- Reading, singing, participating in arts and craft activities with Toddlers
- Help prepare children for playground time and monitoring safety
Preschool Room Duties Include:
- Maintaining a safe environment for parents, teachers, and babies includes bending, reaching and lifting.
- Promote independence through education
- Preparing the environment before, during and after meals.
- Help encourage naptime.
- Help prepare children for outside playground time and monitor safety
Lunch Bunch
The Baby Haven has a partnership with Michael’s of Denver in which Michael’s cooks and bakes the food then delivers it every morning. After lunch service is complete there is additional opportunity for the volunteers to spend time holding the infants, doing arts/crafts projects, or reading to the kids as well. Management of the Lunch Bunch shift will be coordinated through Sign Up Genius and Crissey McNally.
Account for number of children in each classroom.

- Deliver food to classrooms
- Clean up kitchen

Changing Lives and Changing Seasons Gala
Changing Lives and Changing Seasons is our Spring fundraiser celebrating the successes of the women at the Haven. This evening event includes silent and live auctions, dinner, and speakers. The proceeds from this fundraiser go to Treatment Scholarships for deserving women. We need you to help with planning and implementing this large event!
We need people willing to use their time and talent to:
- Work on the Planning Committee
- Secure Sponsorships
- Collect Silent and Live Auction Items
- Plan and implement a smooth Check in and out process
- Help with Marketing and Social Media
- Volunteer the night of the event
Fall Luncheon
The fall luncheon is our program update for community members and referral sources. This is when we get to brag about the reasons the Haven is so successful and communicate the challenges the program and clients leaving face. The proceeds from this fundraiser go straight to the program to increase effectiveness and outcomes. This event includes updates on program effectiveness and outcomes, lunch, and speakers. We need help planning and implementing this event!
We need people willing to share their time and talent to:

- Find a well-known and inspiring speaker
- Help with Marketing
- Volunteer at the luncheon
Colorado Gives Day
All the money raised on Colorado Gives Day goes to support the Baby Haven. During campaign time, we need your help to spread the word!
- Create your own fundraising page and promote it to your contacts
- Help with social media
- Updating our Facebook page and website

Administrative and Office Help
Database Management and Website updates
We are looking for all around volunteers who can help us keep up with data entry. You can even do this from home! We need volunteers to:
- Update donor contact information
- Log in-kind donations
- Place relevant information on the website
Volunteer Coordination
We are looking for help in managing the volunteer schedule for the Baby Haven. In our opinion, we think the staff should concentrate on the kids and not worry about who is coming when. We need someone to coordinate with the volunteers to ensure every shift is covered. This has the potential to be a “help from home” job. We need volunteers to:
Communicate the openings through our email system and or make phone calls
- Schedule volunteers using sign up genius
- Create a volunteer sub list
- Help with volunteer appreciations
In-Kind Donations Coordinator
As you know, the Denver community is very generous. We need volunteers to:
- Receive in-kind donations
- Sort
- Distribute to appropriate programs
General Office Help
Do you love organizing?! We need help staying on top of it.
General Volunteer Opportunities
Staff Appreciations
Staff at the Haven and Baby Haven receives little recognition and accolades for the amazing and difficult work they do to put families back together. They are underpaid and over worked. We can help them feel appreciated by showing them how much our community values the work they do.
We need people willing to share their time and talents to:
- Plan monthly “Thank yous” i.e. breakfasts, lunches, snacks, desserts, gift bags, etc
Teacher Appreciations
If you have ever had a child in school you know how hard teachers work. We need people to show them how much their community appreciates their dedication and hard work.
Donations Drives
Our clients literally come to us with nothing except the clothes on their backs. We need help organizing different drives to help provide them with the needed clothing and self-care items we all take for granted. You can coordinate drives at your office, neighborhood, church, or group of friends. All drives are designed to provide new items to the women and children at the Haven.
Types of Drives needed:

- Bras and Underwear
- Sleepwear
- Socks
- Diapers/Wipes
- Newborn packages

Christmas at the Haven
Christmas is a fun and exciting time around “the Block”. There are lots of firsts, many for children and babies and even more for the women. We need help making Christmas at the Haven a time they won’t forget.
We need people willing to share their time and talent to:
- Adopt a client(s)
- Organize “Angel” trees with local groups/people
- Organize celebrations at the Baby Haven, Haven House, and Mom’s House.
